A random conversation about the zombie apocalypse is what started us on this journey.
I had been thinking about the safest place in the event of an apocalypse, don’t ask me why, I just had been. This was way before the Corona virus, by the way. So I asked Joe and we were talking about where we thought we’d be the safest.
We talked about the city and decided that the city was the last place we’d want to be.
*In the movie War of the Worlds the aliens start under the city and take over and all the people get disintegrated.
*In Red Dawn the city people are in “city jail” and the people that are surviving are in the mountains.
*In Independence Day the biggest cities get pulverized.
*In a million other movies that are about invading the earth or our country, the cities are the first things to get creamed!
I thought the plains would be better.
*Not a lot of people live there.
*Houses could be miles and miles apart.
*There are animals out there that you can hunt and eat.
*You could see zombies coming from a fairly decent distance and be able to defend yourself.
Joe thought the mountains would be safer.
*Your house could be well hidden.
*There are plenty of animals that you can hunt and eat.
*There are wild shrubs and flowers you can eat.
*If you’re at the top of a hill you can see all around you and not be surprised by the zombies.
*Houses can be miles apart and it may be hard to reach a house depending on the terrain.
*You can hide easier in the trees and ravines.
*There’s more water in the mountains. It’s not only water, it’s first water. It’s cleaner, If someone in the mountains dams up a river, the prairie doesn’t get any.
*The terrain makes it harder for zombies to get to you.
So, I was swayed. We started talking about buying land in the mountains. My dad had just passed away and I was thinking about how short life really is and did we really want Joe to work until he was old and neither of us would be able to enjoy life in the mountains. Plus it’s always been my dream to live in the mountains someday. We decided it was “someday”! and we started making plans.
So began our journey of looking for land in the mountains to build on and change our lifestyle completely and move there permanently.
